Posted in Guwahati, Brighu Kumar Kalita, a GIS Analyst with PWD Roads, Govt. of Assam, has a passion for Volleyball which was ignited in his childhood when his paternal uncle Mukul Kalita, a renowned player himself, handed him his very first volleyball.

In the first edition of Brahmaputra Volleyball League, he volunteered to help us in maintaining the score sheets of BVL in an excel sheet.

Ever since the BVL started, he had a burning desire to start a Volleyball club in his own village. Last year, without taking a single weekend off, he travelled back to his native village in Nalbari district, every Saturday, to train the young kids with whatever resources he could manage.

Finally, in the 2nd season of BVL,  two teams from his village are participating and we couldn't be happier for him and the children in his two teams.

He is now the proud 'Centre Incharge' of Najoan club, whose under 16 boys team is adopted by Manikandan Vijayaraghavan and the under 21 boys team is adopted by former Volleyball players of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.

Yesterday, the villagers of Xutaarkuchi in Nalbari district of Assam, on seeing Bhrigu's passion and unwavering dedication towards building the two teams who will play their first ever matches in the Brahmaputra Volleyball League soon, came forward to contribute and discuss the way ahead for organizing the home matches of their teams in the village.

Brighu's leadership and love for Volleyball, has succeeded in creating a sporting ecosystem in his village and is transforming lives.

Like Bhrigu, all of our BVL coaches from the other 92 clubs, also have a similar story of grit and determination to narrate.
