WHO WE ARE

The Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) is a first-of-its-kind grassroots league, pioneered by Abhijit Bhattacharya, former captain of the Indian Men's Volleyball Team. It is organized under the banner of Assam Volleyball Mission 100 and comprises volleyball clubs across Assam, India. BVL, which started in 2020, has been recognized as one of the largest community grassroots leagues in the world, by the FIVB (Federation International De Volleyball). BVL started with an intention to provide a platform for rural children/coaches and is designed in a format that encourages community participation for promotion of volleyball at the grassroots level. BVL features teams from remote villages in U12 and U16 categories (boys & girls) with home-and-away matches. Each team is supported by well-wishers to cover travel and equipment costs. The league operates at three levels: District, Zonal, and State (Super League). Matches are broadcast live, providing exposure to young players, and fostering community bonding.

The match schedules are decided by the participating clubs amongst themselves, depending upon their convenience and not by the central committee. Every BVL match is broadcast live on a partner internet app, using smartphones.

GROWTH OF BVL OF LAST 5 SEASON

Commitment, camaraderie, collaboration and competitiveness define the ethos of BVL. We often say India lives in its villages—and through BVL, these villages are becoming beacons of inspiration and hope for the country and the world. From communities uniting in support, serving nearly 10,000 meals, to cheering players with heartfelt encouragement, BVL has ignited hope for children, their parents, and entire villages across Assam.
